Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society has a mission to improve the lives of equines by educating and helping owners, assisting law enforcement agencies, rehabilitating abused and neglected equines, and placing them into safe, permanent homes.
Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society’s primarily acquisition focus is assisting law enforcement. This includes receiving neglect complaints, investigating neglect complaints, working with law enforcement agencies to educate owners about proper horse care when possible and helping law enforcement agencies in removing neglected/abused/abandoned/estray horses when necessary. Taking in donated horses is always secondary to taking in horses from law enforcement cases.
Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society works through a foster home network. Although the organization may have a facility in the future, the team will always maintain a robust foster home network. Horses in foster homes get more hands-on/one-on-one care than those in a large facility.

How can you help?
Foster homes are the heart of the organization. They open their homes and their hearts to house needy equines. Some foster homes help rehabilitate starved equines while others work with equines who have training problems. Foster homes show their equines off to prospective adopters – and when their foster horse is adopted, they open their hearts for another.
If you don’t think you have enough horse experience to foster, don’t worry. Bluebonnet is happy to set inexperienced foster homes up with a mentor who can help them learn to foster. Many foster homes say they’ve learned more about horses by fostering than through lessons, classes or anything else.
